The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) Elite Athlete Health Insurance Program (EAHI) is an insurance program that provides coverage for personal illnesses and non-sport-related injuries/accidents. The USOPC pays the monthly premiums for athletes enrolled in EAHI. Each NGB receives support from the USOPC based on criteria established by the NGB and approved by the USOPC. Athletes who qualify were notified in January 2020. EAHI will be offered to: a) All Tier 1, 2, and 3 athletes, b) all athletes in the Talent Protection Program (TPP), and c) all resident athletes at the Chula Vista Training Center. Covered athletes can use this insurance with a local provider, with costs of 10% co-pay in-network (Anthem BCBS), 30% co-pay out-of-network. There is no premium, unless covering a spouse or children, but athlete will receive a 1099 form to pay income tax on the value. There is no deductible except for acute sport injuries, but acute sport injuries covered by USATF Group Accident Insurance or visits to USOPC National Medical Network. When a claim is filed with EAHI, athletes must return the questionnaire in the mail that will be sent to them by Anthem BCBS or claim may be denied.
