USATF Tour lands at Miramar with focus on speed and power events

MIRAMAR, Florida — Saturday's Miramar Invitational at the Ansin Sports Complex is the second stop on the 2026 USATF Tour and is a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meet that will feature an array of top track and field athletes from the U.S. and Caribbean looking for an opportunity to compete on a lightning-fast track with traditionally friendly winds while amassing valuable World Athletics rankings points and earning prize money.

South Florida is a hotbed for track and field training groups that consistently produce Olympic and world medalists in the sprints and explosive events, and the Miramar Invitational is quickly becoming the meet of choice for many of these U.S. and international stars to open their outdoor campaigns.

In its sixth year, the meet has seen some eye-opening performances in the past that included a wind-aided 10.57 in the women's 100 that was the fourth fastest time ever run in any conditions, and some fascinating head-to-head matchups like the near dead heat in the men's 200 in 2023 between Christian Coleman and future Olympic 200 gold medalist Letsile Tebogo of Botswana.

This year promises some more fireworks, with the women's 300 one of the most anticipated events. Jamaica's Shericka Jackson is one of history's greatest female sprinters, boasting two World Championships golds in the 200 and Olympic bronzes in the 100 and 400. Jackson also has the second fastest time ever in the 200, a 21.41 that gave her the world title at Budapest in 2023. She was second here last year with a PB run of 36.13 and will be up against two-time World Championships 400 bronze medalist Sada Williams of Barbados as well as a comebacking Britton Wilson, who is the sixth fastest American ever in the 400 at 49.13 and was fifth in the 400 hurdles at the 2022 World Championships. 2024 Olympic 400 hurdles silver medalist Anna Cockrell is also in the mix.

Ronnie Baker is one of the fastest men ever in the indoor 60 and was fifth in the 100 at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021. He has a 100 PB of 9.83 from that Tokyo race and will line up against Jamaica's Rohan Watson and Ackeem Blake. Watson won here last year in a windy 9.99, and Blake set his PB of 9.88 in 2025. There is also a compelling high school component with Texas prep stars Tate Taylor and Blake Hamilton and Britain's Jake Odey-Jordan. Taylor sped to a high school record 9.92 to win the Texas 6A title in 2025 and captured the Nike Outdoor Nationals gold. Hamilton exploded onto the national scene last month when he turned in a windy 19.90 in the 200, and Odey-Jordan is coming off a 20.72 gold medal performance in the 200 at this year's Nike Indoor Nationals.

St. Vincent Olympian Shafiqua Maloney has run some superb 600s at this meet in the past and was just off the podium in the women's 800 at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, placing fourth. Maloney is the seventh fastest woman ever in the event at 1:22.98. Paris Peoples picked up gold on Team USATF's 4x400 at the World Indoor Championships two weeks ago and will be the top American challenger to Maloney. Puerto Rico's Ryan Sanchez also returns to defend his men's 600 title, and he won the 800 in 2023.

In the women's 150, Jamaican twins Tia and Tina Clayton take on former Oregon standout Jadyn Mays. Tina Clayton was the silver medalist in the 100 at last year's World Championships, where she set her PB of 10.76, and sister Tia was seventh at the 2024 Olympics. She has a 100 PB of 10.82, and the duo also helped Jamaica to silver in the 4x100 at the 2025 World Championships. Mays has a 100 best of 11.01 and was the 2024 NCAA bronze medalist in the 200 with a 22.19 PB.

Jamaica's Olympic and World Championships 100 silver medalist Kishane Thompson steps up another 50 meters to contest the men's 150, facing Tapiwa Makarawu of Zimbabwe, the 2025 NCAA 200 champion for Kentucky and a finalist in the 200 at the Paris Olympics and 2025 World Championships. Makarawu set his 200 PB of 19.84 to win that NCAA crown, and Thompson has a 100 PB of 9.75 that makes him the No. 6 all-time world performer.

Olympians Jessica Ramsey and Adelaide Aquilla and three-time World Championships finalist Maggie Ewen top the field in the women's shot put, where they will throw against 2019 World Championships silver medalist Danniel Thomas-Dodd of Jamaica and her teammate Lloydricia Cameron, twice an Olympian. Ramsey won the 2021 Olympic Trials and is one of only seven American women ever to top 20 meters. Ewen is the No. 3 all-time U.S. performer with a PB of 20.45/67-1.25 that is the best in the field, while Aquilla ranks 10th on that U.S. performer list.

Jamaica's Tajay Gayle has a full collection of World Championships medals in the men's long jump, taking gold in 2019, silver in 2025, and bronze in 2023. He set his PB of 8.69/28-6.25 to win that world title. His top challenger should be 2016 World Indoor champion Marquis Dendy, who has been on five U.S. teams for the World Championships and sports a PB of 8.42/27-7.5.

Monae' Nichols was the 2024 World Indoor silver medalist in the women's long jump and placed sixth at the Olympics in Paris. She is coming off an eighth-place effort at the World Indoor Championships and has a PB of 6.97/22-10.5. Former Texas standout Ackelia Smith of Jamaica was a finalist in the long jump and triple jump at Paris, placing seventh and eighth, and she has the longest PB in the field at 7.08/23-2.75.

Multitalented Taliyah Brooks was the bronze medalist last year in the heptathlon at the World Championships and pentathlon at the World Indoor Championships, and she has jumped 6.79/22-3.5 in her career. Colombia's Natalia Linares is a youngster with huge promise and earned bronze at the recent World Indoor Championships to go with the bronze she took at the 2025 World Championships. The 23-year-old has a best of 6.95/22-9.75.

Other events on the oval include a men's 300 that has Alex Ogando of the Dominican Republic, an Olympian and three-time World Championships finalist in the 200, and Demarius Smith, who earned gold in the 4x400 with Team USATF at the World Indoor Championships in March. Brian Faust was the 2025 World Indoor 400 silver medalist and helped the U.S. to gold in the 4x400, while Britain's Toby Harries helped his country to bronze in the 4x400 at Paris in 2024.

Hurdles fans will get to see Olympian and World indoor bronze medalist Gabbi Cunningham take on two-time world U20 champion Kerrica Hill of Jamaica in the 100H, and Jamal Britt heads the men's 110H field after earning bronze in the 60H at the USATF Indoor Championships.
