Woodson leads relay teams to gold at World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 25 INDIANAPOLIS – USA Track & Field is thrilled to announce the appointment of esteemed sprints and relays coach Darryl Woodson as the Team USATF Relay Coach for all international teams. Woodson’s appointment to this significant role is central to the organization’s goal to strengthen medal attainment efforts for the LA28 Olympic Games and beyond. In this capacity, Woodson is entrusted with achieving the gold standard, aiming to unequivocally establish Team USATF as the number one relay program in the world. As part of USATF's recent High Performance reorganization, Woodson will report directly to Wallace Spearmon Jr., General Manager of International Teams and Coach & Athlete Services, and Michael Nussa, General Manager of High Performance. “USATF has an ambitious target of five gold medals in the relay events at LA28. Anything less would be selling our athletes, coaches, and country short,” said USATF Chief of High Performance Operations Robert Chapman. “Darryl Woodson is the ideal coach to lead our new model under the direction of our co-General Managers, Wallace Spearmon and Michael Nussa, and we are excited to begin execution and delivery.” Throughout his career, Woodson has consistently proven his dedication to global excellence. As an assistant relay coach for Team USATF at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games, he has guided athletes to more than 30 global medals and played a key role in the development of world record holders and American record-breaking athletes. A veteran of six Team USATF staffs, Woodson has also helped athletes win 11 U.S. national titles. He is a two-time recipient of the USOPC’s Order of Ikkos Award, which recognizes coaches whose athletes medal at the Olympic and Paralympic Games, for his coaching endeavors. Woodson led his first relay teams as head of the program at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China, where Team USATF reinforced its dominance on the global stage, securing gold medals in both the men’s and women’s 4x400 relays.
