HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – Two world records and three American records fell Saturday at Milton Frank Stadium on the penultimate day of the 2025 USATF Masters Outdoor Championships. Competition was suspended by inclement weather late in the day, but that didn't stop some of America's top athletes from writing their names in the record books.
For the second day in a row Kathy Bergen (SC Striders) set a world record in women's 85-89 competition, this time clearing 1.01/3-3.25 in the high jump. That clearance added six centimeters to the existing world record, and nine to the American record.
Myrle Mensey (Throwing and Growing) claimed world and American records in the women's 75-79 weight throw with a massive 16.34/53-7.5 in round four to add 10 centimeters to the existing records.
On the oval, 80-year-old Lynn Rathjen (unattached, Grand Island, Neb.) broke the American men's 80-84 record in the 800 with a stellar 2:48.64, trimming almost five seconds off the previous record.
Only a wind just over the legal allowable for record purposes kept 91-year-old Flo Meiler (Sprinticity) from claiming an American record in the women's 90-94 triple jump. Meiler bounded 4.25/13-11.5 with a 2.4 meters per second aiding wind, four centimeters beyond the AR.
National Track & Field Hall of Famer Joetta Clark-Diggs (unattached, Hillsborough, N.J.), a four-time Olympian and five time World Championships team member in the 800, was easily the fastest advancer in the women's 60-64 200 heats, clocking 30.04 into a 1.2 mps wind.
Competition concludes Sunday in Huntsville.
