SAVANNAH, Georgia – Two meet records fell Friday on the fifth day of the USATF National Junior Olympics Track & Field Championships at Ted Wright Stadium on the campus of Savannah State University.
Chopping more than a half second off the previous meet record, Jasmine Robinson (The Heat TC) won the girls' 17-18 400 hurdles in 57.12. The previous record of 57.67 was set in 2008 by Turquoise Thompson (Together Elite).
The second record on the oval went to Melanie Doggett (Major Impact TC) in the girls' 13-14 200 semifinal, where she sped to a 23.24 to break the old record of 23.34 that was set by Kayla Davis (Run U Express) in 2017.
Kenadie Forbes (Track Minnesota Elite) won her second gold of the meet with a throw of 8.75/28-8.5 in the girls' 9-10 shot put. Forbes captured the triathlon title earlier this week.
Winners of other age groups in the 400H were Aniah Davis (The Heat TC), 59.56 in the girls' 15-16; Miller Warme (GLS Speed TC), 52.21 in the boys' 15-16; and Andrew Jones, 51.24 in the boys' 17-18. Michelle Rushing (AZ Titans) took the girls' 13-14 200 hurdles crown in 27.70, and Austin Coverson (West Georgia Elite) was the boy's 13-14 champion in 24.74.
Finals were also contested in the 1500, with victories going to Eleanor Ramos (Quick TC), 5:23.97 in the girls' 8 & under race; Avari Dunbar (Las Vegas Elite Runners), 5:04.04, girls 9-10; Martina Rodriguez-Villen (Rain City Flyers), 4:50.80 girls' 11-12; Trace Williams (AMP on 3), 5:13.13 boys' 8 & under; Ean Hernandez (Mount Diablo Heat) 4:55.25 boys' 9-10; and Jordan Oswald (Valley Flash), 4:33.57 boys' 11-12.
Field event winners included Laine McKenzie (GLS Speed TC), 12.62/41-5 in the girls' 17-18 triple jump; Brysen Spears (Kersh Strong Elite Sports), 1.93/6-4 in the boys' 15-16 high jump; Eli German, 52.90/173-6 in the boys' 13-14 javelin; Arisa Bisofa (Boas Throwing), 43.21/141-9 in the girls' 15-16 discus; Elijah Parich (New Heights Gym), 4.65/15-3 in the boys' 15-16 pole vault; and Kai Brooks (Maximum Effort Throwing Club), 12.21/40-0.75 in the girls' 11-12 shot put.
