INDIANAPOLIS -- Bettering the men's American indoor record* for 800 meters for the second time this year, Josh Hoey (Downington, PA/USATF Mid-Atlantic) earned recognition as the seventh USATF Athlete of the Week award winner for 2025. Hoey, who clocked 1:43.90 to break the American record and win the Millrose Games on Feb. 8, ran away from a high-powered field in the final half of the race at the USATF Indoor Championships presented by Prevagen to finish in 1:43.24. That time at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex put him more than a second ahead of the silver medalist in the greatest American indoor men's 800 ever, as three athletes cracked 1:45. With his 1:43.24, Hoey moved to No. 2 on the all-time world performer list indoors, trailing only the world record set by Denmark's Wilson Kipketer in 1997. Hoey, who won his first U.S. indoor title at Staten Island, also bettered the American indoor record in the 1000 in mid-January with a 2:14.48 at Penn. Other top performances from last week:
Lynn Rathjen bettered American masters men's 80-84 records in the 800 (2:52.11), 1500 (5:47.29) and 3000 (12:48.44) at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships.
Nikki Hiltz was a double distance gold medalist at the USATF Indoor Championships, winning the women's 1500 in 4:05.76 and 3000 in 8:48.28.
Hobbs Kessler won the men's 1500 (3:38.82) and 3000 (7:38.00) at the USATF Indoor Championships, setting a meet record in the 3000.
