For Tuesdays with Toyota, we are spotlighting some of USATF's most dedicated members with a short feature on USATF.org and our social media channels. Here is our feature with USATF athlete Michael Beckwith, a member of the USATF Pacific Association from Livermore, California. Why are you a member of USATF? I believe in the sport of running. I believe it brings so much good to the world. I believe in all our athletes, from the elite runners to the occasional runners. What is your "why"? (What motivates you?) I love being outside running. Whether it is during a race, or just me out by myself, running the streets. I love seeing all the places around where I live. I'm currently about 75% of the way done running every street in the Bay Area's Tri Valley (that's Dublin, Livermore, Pleasanton, San Ramon, Danville, and Alamo.) I have run every inch of the first four cities I mentioned. This motivates me to get out and run and see everything there is to see. What is something that helps you focus while you train? I'm always training for the next race. I do lots of races every year. Anywhere from 15 to 30 races a year. From half marathons to 50ks. Every run I do I'm focused on the next race. How has USATF impacted you? I didn't start running until I was 40. Never ran before that. Now I have 145 half marathons, 10 marathons, 35 ultra marathons, and dozens of other distances. Being a part of USATF keeps me motivated to earn my yearly Phidippides Award. Outside USATF how do you spend your time? I enjoy bowling, golfing, and traveling. What is your favorite USATF memory? Getting my first Phidippides Award. Is there an athlete or person who inspired you to join the sport? My friend Kristen Davis encouraged me to start running in 2011. My friend Yoly Pantig encouraged me to join USATF eight years ago.
