LOUISVILLE — Crowning individual and relay winners in multiple disciplines, the USATF National Youth Indoor Championships wrapped up three days of competition Sunday at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center. Kicking off a morning of speed was Enjoli Clark (Unattached) in the girls 8 & Under 400m. The eight-year-old clocked a 1:13.74 to beat the field by nearly six seconds. A similar turnout occurred in the boys 8 & Under 400m as Joseph Rogers II (Unattached) sped to a 1:07.32 finish to beat the field by nine seconds. In the boys 9-10 division, Keyzelle Thomas Jr. (Team Blaze) tacked another win onto his impressive showing at the championships, dipping under a minute to a 57.87 clocking over two laps. 13-year-old Arisa Bisofa (Boas Throwing Club) was the first field event national champion of the day, earning the girls 13-14 shot put crown with a 12.62m/41-5 throw. Bisofa led from the start, landing a 12.05m/39-6.5 put in the first round before bettering that mark with her winning throw in the last round. Mark Goldman (Unattached) bested the field in the boys 15-16 shot put by nearly 10 feet with a major 16.30m/53-5.75 throw. Every one of Goldman’s throws was far enough to win the competition comfortably, with all over 15m and two over 16m. A back-and-forth battle took place in the girls 15-16 triple jump as Sophie Lo (Prospect Park Youth Running) and Aubrey Anderson (Unattached) duked it out for the top spot. Both consistently jumped over nine meters, with their best jumps coming in the last round. Lo got the win with a 10.26m/33-8 leap over Anderson’s 10.03/32-11 jump. The boy’s 15-16 triple jump looked completely different as Michael Danna (SC Flight) took the win by a meter and a half with his 13.14m/43-1.5 jump. Teammates Aaliyah Allen (North Texas Cheetahs Track) and Dayli Paige (North Texas Cheetahs Track) took gold and silver in the girls 11-12 55m hurdles with their 9.32 and 9.86 clockings. In the women’s 17-18 division, Rachel Mehringer (Unattached) dipped under eight seconds to take the national title with a 7.89 finish. Heather Durrant (Elgin Sharks Track) and Angelica Harris (Elgin Sharks Track), who both represented Team USATF at last March’s World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships in the U20 division in Muscat, Oman, were the top two finishers in the women’s 17-18 3000m race walk. Durrant came out with the crown, crossing the line in 13:50.03 with Harris closest behind in second at 14:30.82. It was a race to the finish in the girls 13-14 3000m as Adriana Pettinelli (Tailwind) and Ava Padilla (California Grizzlies) battled for a national title. Pettinelli got the nod at the finish with a 10:12.37 for gold over Padilla’s 10:12.97. Ethan Ellis (Team Onalysis) had an impressive showing in the boys 9-10 high jump. After a bit of struggle getting over 1.12m/3-8, Ellis cleared 1.13m/3-8.5 in a single attempt before giving 1.14m/3-08.75 a shot. Ellis cleared 1.14m in a single attempt, before three solid tries at 1.15m. Wyatt Stewart (Kaisen Pole Vault) had a solid showing in the men’s 17-18 pole vault, clearing his first three heights with ease before attempting 5.05m/16-6.75 - his winning bar. With a national title locked in, Stewart raised the bar to 5.27m/17-3.5 but came up short of the mark. Cade Dewitt (Unattached) was the only other vaulter to clear 16 feet with his first-attempt clearance at 4.90m/16-0.75. All three of Alexis Willis's (GJTC) efforts in the girls 17-18 triple jump would have been good enough to win, topped by an 11.99m/39-5 in the final round. D'Lani Brown (Unattached) was also a convincing winner in the girls 15-16 shot put with a best of 10.41m/34-2 that put her more than six feet ahead of the runner-up. The standout relay of the afternoon came in the boys 11-12 4x400m. Prospect Park Youth Running’s ‘A’ team (Kyle Burke, Caribe Paulino-Dinzey, Tyler Woods, and Nalo Gandy) was challenged by Compton Electric Speed (Kylen Carrier, Kaliam Burroughs, Marlin Arnwine, and Aaron Smith) in a neck and neck race. Prospect Park Youth Running took the crown by a narrow margin with their 4:16.27 to Compton Electric Speed’s 4:16.60. A full list of results can be found here.
