Orlando, Florida — USATF is excited to welcome members from across the country to Orlando, Florida for the 2023 USATF Annual Meeting from November 30 through December 3. Opening Session, set to take place at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, will welcome constituents from every corner of the sport as USATF rings in another lively and productive Annual Meeting. During Opening Session, the CEO Awards, President’s Awards, Robert Giegengack Award, and the Heliodoro and Patricia Rico Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to a dedicated group of individuals, USATF CEO Max Siegel will present the State of the Sport, and USATF President Vin Lananna will present the President’s Report. The top two individual honors in the sport of track and field will be awarded on Saturday, December 2 at the USATF Night of Legends. Presented annually since 1981, the Jesse Owens Award winner for 2023 is triple World Championships gold medalist Noah Lyles. Lyles captured the 100 meters and 200 meters golds in Budapest and anchored Team USATF to gold in the 4x100 relay. He was the first American man since 2007 to achieve that feat. This is Lyles' third time to win the Owens Award, an honor he also earned in 2018 and 2022. World champion Sha'Carri Richardson, who took top honors in the 100 and earned bronze in the 200 at Budapest, will be presented with the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Award, given annually since 2013 to the best female athlete. Richardson also anchored the U.S. women to gold in the 4x100 relay and topped the world list with a 10.65 in the 100 to become the third-fastest American woman ever in the event. USATF Nike Coach of the Year, Dennis Mitchell, USATF Youth Athlete of the Year, Shawnti Jackson, USATF Masters Long Distance Running Athlete of the Year, Jenny Hitchings, and USATF Masters Track and Field Athlete of the Year, Sue McDonald will also be honored at Night of Legends alongside the yet-to-be-named USATF Wing Award recipients. Amendments to the USATF Bylaws will also be considered by the Law & Legislation Committee, and proposed changes to the Rules of Competition will be acted upon by the Rules Committee. Officials for the major USATF championship meets in 2024 will be selected, as will several team staffs for international competitions to be held next year.
