SACRAMENTO — It was a sunny day with temperatures in the upper 40’s in Sacramento. If not for the 12-mph wind, Sacramento would have offered perfect weather for a fast 10 Mile race. Two athletes took down age group American records, subject to verification by the USATF Records Committee. Nat Larson’s 57:24 bettered a Norm Green record that has stood for 30 years. That is his third 60-64 American Record in the last five months. Josh Muxen’s 52:15 broke a Bill Rodgers 45-49 American record set in 1997. Katie Hynes claimed the Women’s overall win in 58:25. Jenny Kadavy and Jenny Hitchings enjoyed second and third place finishes in 59:08 and 1:02:05. Fernando Cabada, who was hoping to break Meb Keflezighi’s Masters record, missed that goal, but took the men’s overall win in 49:03. Malcolm Richardsand Ben Payne took second and third in 49:40 and 51:20. Those with the top age graded scores are considered the athletes with the best performance across all runners. Larson’s record-breaking performance at age 60 took top honors on the Men’s side with a 93.65% score. Jaime Heilpern’s 54:06 at 53 earned a 93.21 score for second, with Roger Sayre’s 1:01:09 at 65 scoring 92.24 for third. Jenny Hitchings set the 55-59 American 10 Mile record here last year. Her 1:02:03 this year, at age 59, earned the top age grade of the day at 99.87%. Kate Stewart’s 1:17:32 at 72 rated a 96.10% for second in the women’s competition, with Fiona Bayly’s 1:03:06 at 55 scoring 93.36% for third.
