INDIANAPOLIS — Running a world lead of 12.96 in the 110m hurdles, Cordell Tinch (Pittsburg, Kansas/USATF Missouri Valley) earned recognition as the 24th USATF Athlete of the Week award winner for 2023. Competing at the Trackwired Arkansas Grand Prix on June 23, Pittsburg State’s Tinch bettered Grant Holloway and Daniel Roberts’ 2019 facility record of 13.07 with his 12.96 (+1.3) win. Tinch bettered his own personal record twice on the day, chopping .12 off of his lifetime best with a 13.09 in the heats before lowering his personal best to 12.96 in the final. Earlier this year, Tinch recorded the fastest 110m hurdles time of any conditions at the collegiate level with his 12.87 (+6.0) at the NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field Championships in May. Courtney Dauwalter bettered the women’s course record by nearly 80 minutes at the Western States 100-mile race on June 24, taking more than an hour off the previous best time. Dauwalter finished the ultramarathon in 15:29:34.
Noah Lyles tied Usain Bolt’s record for the most sub-20 performances in the 200m with 34 efforts under the mark, winning the USATF NYC Grand Prix’s race in 19.83.
Jeannie Rice took down the 75-79 age division American record at the 2023 USATF Masters 1 Mile Championships in Indianapolis on Saturday. Rice clocked a 6:44 to take down the existing record by nearly two minutes.
