Greensboro, NC — An overcast day at Truist Stadium provided ample opportunity for top-tier marks on day three of the USATF Masters Outdoor Championships. Three world records highlighted the day with six American records to top it off. The third morning of competition kicked off with loaded 10,000m fields. Toeing the line in the 75-79 division was Jeannie Rice (Unattached), who just took down the age division 5,000m world record on Thursday. Rice and Nancy Rollins both had their sights on bettering the American record of 55:26.70, and with Rice setting the pace, they both found success. Rice finished with a world record time of 46:53.07 and Rollins dipped below the previous record with 52:43.75. Sue McDonald (Pursuit of Excellence TC) followed suit, breaking her second world record of the meet with a 2:29.97 800m in the women’s 60-64 division. McDonald absolutely demolished the competition, winning by just over 10 seconds in an impressive field. McDonald’s winning time shaved almost two seconds off of Great Britain’s Yvonne Crilly’s 2022 record. A beautiful evening at Truist Stadium set up a perfect opportunity for the Southwest Sprinters men’s 55-59 team to take down the existing world record. Derek Pye, Khalid Mulazim, Allan Tissenbaum, and David Gibbon set up a stellar relay to take the win and break the world record in 45.60. Their clocking was more than 10 seconds faster than the field and slashed nearly a second off of the 16-year-old world record. Linda Cohn (SC Striders Track Club) had quite a day in the 70-74 division of the women’s javelin, twice bettering the existing American record of 27.78m in the event. With six attempts further than 26m, Cohn’s record-breaking throw came in round three with a 28.73m heave. Moreover, Cohn bested the field by more than 6m. An exciting evening of 4x100m kicked off with an American record in the women’s 75-79 division. The TNT International Racing Club “B” team of Nancy Berger, Angela Staab, Mary Trotto, and Cora Hill made a statement, cutting almost 11 seconds off of the existing record of 1:53.16 with their brisk 1:42.27. Adding to the excitement, the SC Striders Track Club “A” bettered the previous American record in the women’s 70-74 division. A quick quartet made up of lead leg Joy Flynn, second leg Jeanne Bowman, third leg Tina Bowman, and anchor Linda Cohn clocked a 1:18.06 to shatter the previous record of 1:34.04. Two teams bettered the previous American record in the women’s 35-39 division of the 4x100m. Southwest Sprinters Track Club “A” (Christy Borders, Cynthia McNamee, Shemayne Williams, and Easter Grant) and Joy’s Jackrabbits Track Club “A” (Christina Trucks, Magdalene Thorne, Elly Mann, and Christine Hufenbecher) were neck and neck, but the Southwest Sprinters came out on top with a new American record time of 51.10 to Joy’s Jackrabbits’ 51.51. Both teams ran under the previous record of 52.68. The women’s 55-59 division saw another American record fall as the Non-Club “E” team of Colleen Barney, Andrea Collier, India Bridgette, and Emmanuelle McGowan sped to a 53.43 finish. The foursome chopped a half second off of the existing record of 54.05. Records continued to fall as the men’s teams took to the track. So Cal Track Club “B”’s 65-69 team of Dave McNair, Robert McDaniels, Rudy Llavanes, and Jeffery Davison clocked a 56.65 4x100 to take down the American record in the division by almost a second.
