For Tuesdays with Toyota, we are spotlighting some of USATF's most dedicated members with a short feature on USATF.org and our social media channels. Here is our feature with USATF athlete Don Muchow, member of the USATF South Texas Association from Plano, Texas. Tell us about your journey with USATF and how it has impacted you. “I first started running in 2004 to lose weight and take control of my type 1 diabetes, with a goal of eventually running a marathon. I signed up for a USATF membership as a promise to myself to stay the course. In 2011 I ran my first marathon, and it didn't kill me. So, I aimed for something more and found myself running my first 50K in 2013. Since then, I have done 100-mile and 200-mile runs, finished a full Ironman, and was the first person to run Relay Iowa (339 miles) solo in 2018. In 2019 I set the Fastest Known Time for a run across Texas (850 miles in a little over 27 days) and in 2021 became the first person to run from Disneyland to Disney World (2761 mi). I have maintained both my USATF membership and my promise to myself, and in the process have lost 50 pounds and gained confidence that anything is possible.” What are you most thankful for in regard to your USATF community? “It's a community of mostly average athletes who are chasing the same goals that I am and I identify with them.” Is there a word, phrase, or thought that helps you focus while you train? “You'll never make it if you don't believe you can make it.”
