INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana — Resuming a traditional rivalry after a two-year absence, Team USATF's combined events athletes will host Germany for the 27th Thorpe Cup on July 9-10 at St. Mark's School of Texas in Dallas. Team scoring involves tallying the top three heptathlon scores from each country and the top five decathlon scores. American heptathletes won the most recent meeting in 2019 by 174 points and have won 10 in a row since 2010, but the U.S. men have won only one of the past 10 decathlon duels, that victory coming in 2016. Leading a solid women’s team is Chari Hawkins, the 2022 USATF Championships pentathlon gold medalist. Hawkins is fresh off a big personal heptathlon best of 6243 at the beginning of June. Hunter Price is the team's top men's finisher from the USATF Combined Events Championships, also placing fifth.
