Nur's cross country win earns him USATF Athlete of the Week honors
INDIANAPOLIS — Winning the men's 65-69 title at the USATF Club Cross Country Championships,
Jacob Nur
(Elk Grove, California/USATF Pacific) earned recognition as the 43rd USATF Athlete of the Week award winner for 2022.
Nur, 67, clocked 29:51 for 8km on the challenging Golden Gate Park course in San Francisco to win his age group by 1:38 and achieve an age grade of 92.24%, the best of all finishers in the masters men's competition. Representing the SRA Elite club, Nur finished third overall out of 240 finishers in the race that was open to athletes aged 60 and above. He has bettered several age group records from 5km to the half marathon in the past 18 months and won the 65-69 gold at the USATF Masters 5km Cross Country Championships in October.
Other top performances from last week:
Joannie Siegler, 65, had the top age-graded performance in the women's masters 6km race at the USATF Club Cross Country Championships, achieving a 92.84% grade with her 25:37 to win the 65-69 division by almost two minutes.
Sophia Rodriguez won the girls' 13-14 4km race at the USATF Junior Olympics Cross Country Championships by more than 23 seconds in 14:03.
Karanveer Patil won the boys' 11-12 3km race at the USATF Junior Olympics Cross Country Championships in 9:24.1, 15 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
Cole Hocker won the Open Men's title at the USATF Club Cross Country Championships by five seconds.
Bethany Hasz won her first USATF title, taking the top spot in the Open Women's race at the USATF Club Cross Country Championships.
Camille Herron bettered the track world record for 100 miles and the American records for 50km, 100km and 100 miles at the Desert Solstice Invitational in Arizona.
Now in its 21st year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week when there are high-level competitions and features the athlete on USATF.org. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
