Hall, McLaughlin-Levrone, and Nageotte win 2022 USATF Wing Awards
Lake Buena Vista, Florida — USATF announced its 2022 Wing Award winners at the Night of Legends during Annual Meeting.
Winning the Wing Award for World Championships Field Performer was
Katie Nageotte
. Going head-to-head with training partner Sandi Morris, Nageotte went over 4.85m/15-11 on her first attempt in the pole vault to put pressure on Morris. Morris cleared that height on her second try before both women made three attempts at 4.90m/16-0.75 without success, giving Nageotte her first world outdoor title and Morris her third straight silver.
The Wing Award for best World Championships Track Performer went to
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone
, who had a pair of stunning laps around Eugene’s iconic oval. In a race that had all of Hayward Field on their feet, McLaughlin-Levrone bettered her own world record, set just 27 days earlier, by the largest margin since 1977, knocking .73 seconds off that mark to win the 400m hurdles in a mind-blowing 50.68. She capped off her World Championships showing with a 47.9 split to anchor the women’s winning 4x400m relay to a world-leading time of 3:17.74 over Jamaica’s 3:20.74.
Showing a range of talent not seen in the U.S. since perhaps the days of Jackie Joyner-Kersee,
Anna Hall
won the Wing Award for Breakthrough Performer of the Year. Hall swept the NCAA indoor pentathlon and outdoor heptathlon titles and added a silver in the 400m hurdles before storming onto the international stage to claim bronze at the World Championships with a 6,755-point score that moved her to third on the all-time U.S. performer list. The Florida sophomore also won the USATF heptathlon title and placed eighth in the long jump at the USATF Outdoor Championships.
