NEW YORK, New York — USATF future stars flocked to Randall’s Island’s Icahn Stadium for the first day of competition at the 2022 USATF National Youth Outdoor Championships. With near-perfect weather in the city that never sleeps, competition was stiff, personal records fell, and champions were crowned. Big marks in the field events highlighted the day, with perhaps the most impressive coming from the 11-12 division javelin throwers. Tori Hackett of the New Jersey Striders dominated competition in the 11-12 girls division javelin. While any of her six attempts would have won the competition, her standout performance came in the second round when she heaved the spear 34.51m/113-02. Hackett bested the field by nearly 15m. Westfield Area Y Flyers’ Millen Dhiman won the boy’s 11-12 javelin with a 37.58m/123-03 throw in the second round. He bested the competition by nearly 10m and only dipped under the 30m mark once in six rounds. Athletes advanced in the preliminary rounds of the 200m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 800m, and 200m. They’ll compete in the finals on Friday.
