American records, more world marks set on final day at USATF Masters Outdoor Championships push total to 30 American records including 8 World
AMES, Iowa — Athletes, ages 30-96, set eight world records and 30 American records over four days of competition in the USATF Masters Outdoor Championships at the Cyclone Sports Complex on the campus of Iowa State University.

So Cal Track Club, sweeping both the men’s and women’s team titles, captured the team combined championship with 666 points, marking its 18
th
indoor/outdoor title.
So Cal Track Club won the men’s division team scoring 445 points with the Potomac Valley Track Club second at 227 followed by the Atlanta Track Club with 201 points respectively.
So Cal Track Club edged the SC Striders Track Club, 221-217 in the women’s team race. The Potomac Valley Track Club was third with 206 points.
A record 174 clubs competed in the meet, while the 1,051 participants of the world and country’s top Masters track and field athletes marked the largest turnout for the USATF Masters Outdoor Championships since 2014, and 160 more than the 2019 USATF Masters Championships in Ames.
Two world records and six American records were set on Sunday’s final day of competition, including two records in the women’s 4x400m relays.

A U.S. All-Star team also established an American mark in the women’s 50-54 age 4x400m relay of 4:23.24.

Earlier, Rohl set a U.S. mark for the second straight day – this time in the women’s aged 55-59 1,500m. Rohl was clocked in 4:54.16, trimming more than eight seconds off the previous U.S. record of 5:02.19 that she set June 5 in Landover, Md.

Gloria Krug
(Philadelphia Masters, New Oxford, Pa.) 90, set her fifth American record in the women’s 90-94 age group this weekend, winning the shot put at 18 feet 9.75 inches/5.73m. Earlier, she set American records in the women’s hammer throw, weight throw, javelin throw, and discus throw.
Tami Graf
(Potomac Valley Track Club/Lusby, Md.), 85, made it a trifecta by setting a world record in the women’s aged 85-89 200m hurdles in 1:42.04 to go along with previous American records she set in her age group in the women’s 5,000m and 10,000m runs.
Gary Patton
(Rock Rapids, Iowa), 75, defended his title in the men’s aged 75-79 1,500m run in big fashion, setting an American record of 5:19.87. Patton now owns American records in three age categories in the 1500m — age 65-69, age 70-74 and age 75-79.
Coreen Steinbach
(Pompey, N.Y.), 70, earned her fourth women’s 70-74 age group title by sprinting to victory in the 200m in 35.59 after opening the morning by winning the 1,500 in 6:28.18. She won the 400m Friday and 800m Saturday.
Dixon Hemphill
(Potomac Valley Track Club/Fairfax Station, Va.), the oldest competitor in the meet at 96 years old, came back to win the men’s 95-99 200m (2:58.78) Sunday after claiming the 100m title Saturday.
