Taking to the track at Portland’s Jesuit High School for the third time this summer, Nike Bowerman TC this time attacked the world and American bests in the infrequently run 4x1,500m relay. Chasing a women’s World record of 16:33.58 set in 2014 by the Kenya team at the IAAF World Relays, the quartet of Colleen Quigley, Elise Cranny, Karissa Schweizer and American 1,500m record-holder Shelby Houlihan shattered that mark with a 16:27.02 (pending ratification), averaging just over 4:06.7 per leg. Their time was 28 seconds under the existing American record. Running with a foursome of Evan Jager, Grant Fisher, Sean McGorty and Lopez Lomong, the men of Bowerman bettered the existing American record of 14:40.80 with a stellar 14:34.97 (pending ratification). A second team of mixed-nationality Bowerman athletes clocked 14:44.70. On her first throw at the Iron Wood Throws Center Invite in Idaho on Saturday, Valarie Allman launched a new discus American record (pending ratification) of 70.15m/230-2. Her throw, a personal best of three-meters, broke Gia Lewis-Smallwood’s 2014 record of 69.17m. Allman’s previous personal best was 67.15m. Chase Ealey had a world-leading 19.41m/63-8.25 in the women’s shot put, while Kara Winger went atop the U.S. list in the women’s javelin for 2020 with a 64.44m/211-5, a distance only she and Brittany Borman have ever surpassed on the American all-time list. The top men’s mark at Rathdrum came from Nick Ponzio in the men’s shot put, where he scored another 21m+ effort with a best of 21.06m/69-1.25. Riley Dolezal recorded the best men’s javelin mark by an American this season with a 79.39m/260-5. Donavan Brazier, the reigning 800m world champion and American record-holder, clocked a world-lead 1:43.84 in the 800m on Friday at The Big Friendly 3 meet in Newberg, Oregon. Running her fastest time in the 1,500m since 2016, former American record-holder Shannon Rowbury won in 4:03.62. At the American Track League meet Saturday at Life University in Marietta, Georgia, Katie Nageotte cleared 4.92m/16-1.75, to become the sixth-best pole vaulter in the world all-time outdoors and third-best in U.S. history. Her clearance equaled the fifth-best U.S. performance ever outdoors. Also at the American Track League meet, Gabby Thomas took the 200m in 22.89 just ahead of Kyra Jefferson in 22.90. Morolake Akinosun finished third in 23.41. Wednesday at Marietta, Thomas had zipped to a 22.63, her fastest time since 2018. Courtney Okolo clocked a U.S.-leading 51.52 to win the 400m and beat Jessica Beard in 51.71. In a slight headwind, teenager Tamari Davis finished second in the 100m in 11.42 behind Murielle Ahoure of Ivory Coast in 11.36.
