Dr. Bonnie Edmondson has over 35 years of experience as an educator, athletic coach, and former professional athlete. She is the 1990 and 1991 United States champion and former world ranked hammer thrower. Bonnie placed 3rd at the 1992 Olympic Trials but was denied a birth on the team as the women’s hammer was not yet contested as an official event at the Olympics. She also competed at the 1996 Trails in Atlanta and was ranked among the top five in the United States in the women’s hammer throw from 1990-1996. Dr. Edmondson has held leadership positions in USATF having served as the Head Women’s Coach of the 2019 IAAF World Track and Field Championships in Doha, Qatar; throwing events coach for the 2016 United States Olympic Team in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and served as the throws coach for five IAAF World Championship teams. Dr. Edmondson is a member of the USATF Women’s Track and Field Executive Committee and Ex-officio and former Chair of the USATF Women’s Commission. Other past USATF positions include Chair of the Women’s Hammer Olympic Development and member of the Athlete’s Advisory Committee. In addition, Bonnie is a recipient of the USATF President’s Award and the Alumni Service Award. Dr. Edmondson is entering her 13th year as the throwing events coach at Trinity College in Hartford, CT where she has coached numerous All-Americas and NESCAC Conference and New England champions. Dr. Edmondson is a Professor Emerita of School Health Education at Southern Connecticut State University and holds a Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership, an MS in School Health Education, and a BA in English.
