The HAP CareSource Crim Festival of Races welcomes the 2024 USATF Masters 10 Mile Championships to the 47th Anniversary of its signature 10 Miler. The Crim has a rich running history. Legends like Bill Rodgers, Herb Lindsay, and Greg Meyer battled here in the early days. Joan Benoit (Samuelson) won here two years before her Olympic Marathon victory. More recently, in 2015, Leonard Korir outlasted Dathan Ritzenhein for the win! In the Women’s race, Carolyn Rotich won her duel with Aliphine Tuliamuk. It is time for you to add to that running history as part of the Crim’s first National Masters 10 Mile Championship. The 10 Mile course starts and finishes in downtown Flint. The USATF Masters Championships have a separate start at 6:55 am, five minutes before the members of the ’30 Year Club’ begin. Those longtime runners enjoy a 5-minute head start on the mass participation race, which starts at 7:10 am. Championship awards and cash prizes will be awarded to top overall male and female finishers as well as in each 5-year age division. Awards and cash prizes will also go to the top teams and the athletes with the highest age grade scores. Athletes can earn Elite Performance Medals, available only at USATF Masters National Championships, for achieving National Class age grade scores of 80% and above. The Crim is proud to host our national championship; they will offer a pre-race hospitality event for Masters Championship athletes Friday night (details to come). On Saturday, there will be an area inside the Festival Lot with a Masters Tent, post-race food, and a space for Awards. The median weather conditions at 7 am on August 24th over the last ten years are: 61-degree temperature, with 86% relative humidity, dewpoint 59F, with winds at 2 mph under fair skies. The morning can be very muggy. Join competitors from across the country in this annual championship over one of the iconic courses in the country! While the 10-mile loop does have some challenging aspects, it can deliver very fast times! There are several hotels in the Flint area, including a new downtown Hilton hotel located directly on the start line. A bargain option in the downtown area, convenient to the race, is in the UM-Flint Riverfront Residence Hall. There are dozens of other hotels nearby, many of which are providing a booking link and discount to USATF athletes. The Festival of Races is known for its Race Festival, open Friday evening and Saturday from 8 am to 3 pm! Many restaurants, bars, brew pubs, and the like are within a few blocks of the race. Fly into Bishop International Airport; you are a ten-minute drive from downtown Flint. The airport has service from Allegiant, American and United Airlines with connections to major airports such as Chicago, Atlanta, Charlotte, Las Vegas, and Boston. Anyone flying into Detroit faces a drive of just over an hour to Flint.
