Richmond, VA The 2023 USATF Cross Country Championships will be contested on January 21, 2023, at Pole Green Park in Richmond, VA. The course served as the host site for the 2008 USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships and has hosted 4 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships. The 2023 championships will consist of six separate races: Masters Women 6 km, Masters Men 8 km, U20 Women 6 km, U20 Men 8 km, Open Women 10 km, and Open Men 10 km. Please bring Passports to Team Processing!* The 2023 USATF Cross Country Championships scheduled for January 21, 2023 will serve as the selection event for U20 and Open athletes for the 2023 World Athletics Cross Country Championships. All athletes are required to complete Team Processing in order to be eligible for selection to the 2023 World Athletics Cross Country national team. Athletes who fail to complete Team Processing during the timeframe listed below will forfeit their rank for selection to the 2023 World Athletics Cross Country Championships national team. The 2023 World Athletics Cross Country Championships will take place February 18, 2023 in Bathurst, Australia. Selection procedures are forthcoming. Athletes should bring the following to Team Processing:

*Athletes must have a current passport good for at least six (6) months after the return date from the National Team event (valid through August 19, 2023).
Team Processing will take place from 1:30pm – 7:00pm on January 21, 2023. Athletes will be directed to the Team Processing area located right off the competition course at the Pole Green Park community center.
Athletes MUST bring passports to Team Processing.
USATF National Office is primarily responsible for athlete travel for the World Cross Country Championships team. Athletes will not travel as a Team to the World Cross Country Championships. USATF will book the athlete's ticket and will pay for a roundtrip ticket from the athlete's home city to Bathurst, Australia and back to the athlete's home city. As travel to Bathurst must be booked through USATF, no reimbursements for travel booked independently will be issued.
World Athletics and Bathurst Local Organizing Committee will provide details on the COVID-19 medical clearance protocol closer to the date of the event. Currently, travelers coming to Australia do not need to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or proof of negative test. Pole Green Park is located about four miles northeast of Interstate 295 which provides quick, easy access to the facility. Located behind Pole Green Elementary School the park is only ~10 miles from the Richmond International Airport. This 232-acre park opened in the fall of 1998. Amenities at this park include multiple cross country course designs, softball fields, soccer fields/football fields, a skate park, tot-lots and playgrounds, a concession building with restrooms, running/walking trails, picnic shelter, community center, a horse ring with stable area, sand volleyball courts and horseshoe pits. The upper course includes very spectator-friendly, European-style grass loops running along the perimeter of the upper fields within the west side (back area) of Pole Green Park. The terrain on the upper loops is primarily flat and provides for a fast surface where spikes are highly recommended. From the start line it is ~500M to the first turn on the course. The average width of the course is 12 meters/40 feet. The entire course is highly visible and extremely spectator friendly with handicap accessible parking within 30 meters of the start line. The upper course has 2K, 3K, 5K, 6K, 8K and 10K layouts.
On-site parking for athletes with a race number will be free.
Awards will begin after the mandatory protest period ends for each race.
USATF Championship medals will be awarded to the top 10 men's and women's individual finishers in each U20 Championship race. Team awards will be given to the declared members of the first-, second-, and third-place men's and women's team in each U20 Championship race.
USATF Individual Championship Medals will be awarded to the top 3 men's and women's individual finishers in all 5-year age divisions from 40-44 to the age group of the oldest finisher. USATF Championship Patches will be awarded to the winners of each 5-year age division. USATF Team Championship Medals will be awarded to the declared members of the top 3 men's and women's teams in the following age divisions: 40+, 50+, 60+, 70+, and 80+.
