As the nature of the COVID-19 pandemic progresses, USATF in consultation with its COVID-19 Working Group has made evidence-based decisions from specific event logistics, output from the CDC COVID-19 Community Level Tool to determine risk by county, information on new variants, and overall COVID-19 data for the location of the event to update the protocols for the 2022 USATF Masters Half Marathon Championships. There is no longer a USATF requirement for proof of negative COVID-19 test results or vaccination status. These protocols are subject to change. Last updated 3/4/2022.
The 2022 USATF Masters Half Marathon Championships, hosted by the Syracuse Half Marathon, will take place Sunday morning, March 20, 2022. Masters athletes will celebrate the first day of spring with a Half Marathon. Those entered in the Championships will join the Elite Runners for a 7:53 AM start. The Community race will start a few minutes later. A new host for the Masters Half Marathon, the Syracuse HM has been held each year since 2013; over 3,000 runners completed this Half Marathon in 2019. The race is held within easy walking distance of a 100,000 square foot Convention Center, the Syracuse Oncenter, which is available before and after the race for all Half Marathon participants. Masters Athletes can attend a post-race party in the Convention Center. A typical race time temperature from the upper 30’s to the low 40’s is conducive to fast half marathon running. The course record is 1:06:21. Syracuse is a mid-sized city in the Finger Lakes area of Upstate New York.
