The first three finishers in each age group in each event will receive gold, silver, and bronze 2021 USATF Masters Outdoor Track and Field Championships medals. USATF Champions will also receive a championship patch; only one patch will be awarded to an individual athlete no matter how many events they win. The fourth through eighth place finishers in each event will each receive a USATF Masters Championship ribbon. Non-US Citizens are not eligible to displace US Citizens or USA affiliated athletes for awards or to score points in the club competition. Awards may be picked up at the designated tent at the west end of the concourse no earlier than one hour of the completion of the event.
Team trophies will be presented to the first place, second place, and third place men’s, women’s, and combined teams. Points are awarded as follows:

Your competitor number (bib) must be worn on the front during all competitions (exceptions for High Jump, Pole Vault, and Throws athletes, who may wear theirs on either the front or the back). You will need your registration password that you received in your confirmation e-mail from the entry system (it's located at the bottom of the e-mail under the heading "Managing Your Registration." Cyclone Sports Complex 1022 Welch Ave Ames, IA 50011 https://cyclones.com/facilities/?id=7 The Cyclone Sports Complex track facility is a 400-meter 8 lane oval track with a BSS Hobart Texture Track surface. Field event areas for this meet include two pole vault runways, four long/triple jump runways, two high jump pits, and 3.5 acres of throws space. The facility also includes a training room, concessions, and plenty of open areas.
The facility will be open during the following hours each day (subject to change based on final schedule):
*On Wednesday, the field event areas (vertical, horizontal jumps and throws) will be open for practice. The track will be available for inspection and warm up activities. There will be no trainers available and no coolers or water available – athletes must come prepared. Athletes accessing the facility for practice/warm up activities on Wednesday will be required to pass COVID-19 screening, including presenting a negative COVID-19 PCR test or evidence of vaccination (>2 weeks post full course vaccination).
From the North: Take I-35 South to exit 111B (US-30 West towards Ames). Two (2) competition-approved implements of every size and weight will be provided. However, it is recommended that you bring your own implement and have it certified at the Implement Inspection area. The Implement Inspection area will be located at the east side of the storage building. Athletes wishing to use their own implements must submit those implements for inspection at least two hours before the scheduled start of their throwing event. Approved implements will be impounded until the start of the competition. Implement Inspection will be open as follows (subject to change based on final schedule):
All implements should be checked in at least two hours prior to the start of your event. Implements for all early morning throws (8:00 – 10:00 a.m.) should be checked in the evening before the event.
Vaulting poles will be available for athletes to rent during the Championships in Ames. Click here to be taken to the site where the pole rental program is described in detail and you can pay for the rental. The cost is $50 (payable by credit card) prior to the meet and $70 on site (payable only by check).
Only ¼ inch “Pyramid Spikes” will be allowed on the competition surface at the Cyclone Sports Complex. Prohibited spikes include “Needle Spike Pins” and “Christmas Tree Spikes,” and any of length longer than ¼ inch. All shoes will be checked.
Only meet supplied starting blocks will be allowed. No personal starting blocks will be permitted. Back to Top
Packet pick-up will be located at the front gate of the Cyclone Sports Complex. Packet Pick-up will be open as follows (subject to change based on final schedule):
Any protest must be in writing and be made to the event head official at least (or to the referee) no later than 30 minutes of the results of the event being communicated, announced, or posted. Protests not filed within that timeframe will be denied. Once a protest has been decided and the result of the protest communicated, announced, or posted, you have 30 minutes to file an appeal. The fee to file an appeal is $100. To file an appeal, you must submit the written appeal to the Games Subcommittee. The protest fee is non-refundable unless your protest/appeal is upheld. For appropriate and timely processing of record applications, athletes obtaining a new age-division record in an event should be prepared to submit a copy of their birth certificate or passport (driver’s license or similar is not acceptable), if not already submitted to USATF with your entry. Starting heights for the high jump and pole vault competition will be determined by facility equipment limitations and the Masters Track & Field Championships Games Subcommittee. Minimum High Jump height is 0.70m (2 feet, 3 inches); minimum Pole Vault height is approximately 0.80m (2 feet, 7 inches). Back to Top
All eligible members of USATF and eligible members of other World Masters Athletics (WMA) Masters Affiliates may compete in these Championships. However, only U.S. citizens and athletes eligible to compete for the USA in international competitions may score or win Championship medals; all athletes not eligible to compete for the USA will receive equivalent awards.
There are no qualifying standards for this competition.
Athletes must be 25 years or older on July 22, 2021. Individual and relay competitions will be conducted in five-year age divisions.
All athletes must be 2021 members of USATF (or other WMA Masters Affiliate) in good standing. USATF memberships may be purchased online. Non-U.S. citizens must be eligible members of their nation’s World Masters Athletics Masters Affiliate.
All clubs must be 2021 USATF member organizations to score team points and athletes must have that club listed in their USATF profile when entering these Championships.
Club and non-club relay teams shall be separate divisions. USATF Competition Rule 332.2(g) details the definitions for both club and non-club relay teams. Non-U.S. citizens may not be members of club relay teams.
Proof of date of birth will be required from all competitors in advance. See the Verification of Age section on the entry information page for more details. Back to Top
Relay team entries will open on Thursday, July 22 at 12:00 p.m. at Packet Pick-up. Relay entry forms will be available there. Relay teams may only enter on-site; however, each member of a relay team must also be entered in the meet as an individual. Spectators are welcome at the 2021 USATF Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Spectators will be required to complete the USATF COVID-19 Symptom Survey and have their temperatures taken upon arrival at the Cyclone Sports Complex. In the bleachers next to the track and by the field events, there will be designated sections for vaccinated and non-vaccinated spectators. Spectators are expected to sit in the appropriate section based on whether they are vaccinated against COVID-19. Currently, based on USATF protocols, masks are required for spectators at this event.
