Dear Athletes, With the U.S. Olympic Trials quickly approaching, we want to take a moment to reach out to you regarding the uniform guidelines. With the exception of standard manufacturers' equipment identification permitted by Rule 50 of the Olympic Charter, the equipment, uniforms, and accessories of the competitors, coaches, and officials at the Trials may not bear any commercial identification or promotional material of any kind (whether commercial or noncommercial). For clarification, all apparel and shoes will have no identification outside of the standard manufacturer’s logos. The participant may wear the USOPC approved logo of his/her sport club on his/her clothing, subject to USOPC prior approval of the size, frequency, and placement of club logo. The USOPC will support USA Track & Field with the enforcement of this USOPC policy at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Any violation of the rules may result in an athlete’s ineligibility to compete. We appreciate your attention and understanding to these rules that will be enforced throughout the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Below, you will find additional information on the Uniform Check Procedure along with the sizing restrictions that will be enforced at the event.
Tuesday, June 15 – Saturday, June 26
Sunday, June 27
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Athlete shall bring their full uniform including accessories, hats, socks, masks, and warm up gear that they are planning on wearing during warm-ups, competition, and cool down (including any award ceremonies, interviews, etc.).
A USATF Administrator checks logo size/location/type based on the requirements listed below.
If there are any violations, the athlete must cover any outlying marks with tape (provided at the booth) or use alternate clothing that meets the requirements.
Once all requirements have been met, all pieces of the uniform are laid out on the table, along with a 3" x 5" index card with the athlete’s name.
A photo of the kit and index card are taken. This photo is saved on file and serves as a reference for what the athlete will be wearing on race-day.
On race-day, the athlete will go through a secondary, “race ready” uniform check during first call on Field 3 by the Clerking tent to ensure they have not violated uniform guidelines.
If the athlete is found to have violated the uniform guidelines, the photo will serve as proof that they are not abiding by what the athlete agreed to wear.
Once the athlete completes this final uniform check, only then will they be allowed to receive their bib from the clerk assigned to the athlete’s event.
USATF National Office will oversee all aspects of the Uniform Check guidelines and will answer any questions from athletes, coaches, etc. Any questionable items should be brought to a USATF National Office administrator for further review who will consult with a designated USOPC Staff member assigned to Uniform Check as needed.
