Updated April 22, 2023 The International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) has announced the new venue and date for the 2023 50K World Championship, effectively replacing the previously canceled 2023 50K on May 28, in South Africa. The new venue and date will be November 5, in Hyderabad, India. Information can be found on the IAU website. Meanwhile, all those athletes who have auto qualified for the original 2023 event, which was going to occur on May 28, 2023 prior to its cancellation, will remain as auto qualifiers for the November 5 Road 50K World Championships in India, including auto qualifiers from the 2023 50K road championships on March 12. The USATF Road 50 Kilometer National Team will compete at the 2023 IAU 50 Kilometer World Championships under the patronage of the World Athletics (WA) on November 5, in Hyderabad, India. Team USA will include up to six male and six female athletes. The Team (and alternates), and one Team Leader, one Assistant Team Leader and one Team Physician will be selected by the Executive Committee of the USATF Mountain Ultra Trail Council.

To be considered for the USA 50 Kilometer National Team, runners must be citizens of the United States of America, current USATF members, and meet one of the following qualification standards, as well as other eligibility requirements. Athletes will be selected to the team based on the order of the criteria below until all the team spots are filled.
None. The 2021 IAU 50K World Championships were canceled due to COVID-19.
All athletes must be current USATF members, U.S. citizens, pass the online SafeSport course, eligible to represent the United States at an international championship and have a passport valid through June 1, 2024 Team uniforms will be provided by USATF. If an athlete qualifies for the team but cannot make the trip due to injury or any other circumstance, the uniform must be returned to USATF. Team members will receive funding from USA Track & Field and the LOC with the exact reimbursement amount TBD. We do know that this team will not be fully funded with these resources. USATF Team Staff will be Lin Gentling, Meghan Canfield, and Dr. Lion Caldwell.
