Bryshon Nellum has been an exceptional runner since he was a young child. In high school, he became the first athlete in the California Division 1 state meet to win the 200m and 400m two years in a row. Nellum suffered from a hamstring injury during his first race at USC. Eight months later in 2008, he was shot in both legs by gang members who mistook him for a member in a rival gang. Less than an hour later, Nellum was asking his doctors if he would be able to run again. In 2013, he won the National Men’s Athlete of the Year award from the USTFCCCA.
