Augustus Maiyo took a three year break from competition after college and only began competing again when the WCAP program gave him a chance to train. He became the first WCAP athlete to compete in the Boston Marathon in 2017. Maiyo won the first ever marathon he competed in against 30,000 runners. He has explained his training program as being similar to that of athletes in his native country of Kenya.
