INDIANAPOLIS -- Winning the Texas Relays men's javelin with the longest throw in the world this year, Curtis Thompson(Florence, NJ/USATF New Jersey) earned recognition as the 12th USATF Athlete of the Week award winner for 2025.
Adding two inches to his lifetime best in his season-opening meet, the two-time Olympian won the event with a second-round throw of 87.76/287-11 that elevated him to No. 3 on the all-time U.S. performer list, with the seventh farthest throw ever by an American.
The 2023 Pan American Games gold medalist, Thompson has twice represented the U.S. at the Olympic Games and World Athletics Championships. His previous PB of 87.70/287-9 came on July 9, 2022, at East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
Florence Meiler set three women's age 90-94 world indoor records and seven American records at the World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships in Florida. Her global marks came in the 60 hurdles, high jump, and pentathlon, and she added ARs in the 60, 800, pole vault and long jump.
Liam Murphy of Villanova set a collegiate record in the men's 1500 with a 3:33.02 at the Raleigh Relays.
Elise Cranny won the women's 10,000 at The TEN in San Juan Capistrano, clocking a world-leading 30:36.56. It was the eighth fastest time in U.S. history.
