For Tuesdays with Toyota, we are spotlighting some of USATF's most dedicated members with a short feature on USATF.org and our social media channels. Here is our feature with USATF athlete Kevin Christensen, a member of the USATF Pacific Association from Sparks, Nevada. Why are you a member of USATF? I've been competing since I was in my 40's now, I'm in my 70's. I try every season to reach All-American in a variety of events, especially javelin, sprints and high jump. What is your "why"? Staying in motion slows my aging process even though I have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, Hashimoto’s disease, and a prosthetic left shoulder. What is something that helps you focus while you train? Trying to peak at the right time through proper off season weight training. How has USATF impacted you? I love it. All ages. I started a javelin club for anyone - boys/girls, men/women of all ages. So I'm so grateful for the officials who are willing to help keep the dream alive. Outside USATF how do you spend your time? I'm a professional trainer and track coach. What is your favorite USATF memory? Too many but winning the USATF national championship in Pentathlon in 2002. Is there an athlete or person who inspired you to join the sport? Not really. I was just aware of it being available for all ages. Very cool.
