Holloway's world record* earns him USATF Athlete of the Week honors

INDIANAPOLIS — Bettering his own world record* in the men's 60 hurdles, Grant Holloway (Gainesville, Florida/USATF Florida) earned recognition as the 6th USATF Athlete of the Week award winner for 2024.

Holloway stormed to a 7.27 in the heats at the USATF Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, taking .02 off the world record he set at Madrid in 2021 and tied at the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade in 2022. He now owns the top three times in world history and six of the top seven.

Undefeated in the 60H since 2014, Holloway has the top 11 times in U.S. history and will defend his World Indoor title in March in Glasgow, Scotland. All five of his races this year have been faster than 7.40, and dating back to February 27, 2022, none of his times have been slower than 7.40 in 14 races.

Other top performances from last week:

  • Tia Jones tied the world record of 7.67 in the women's 60 hurdles in the heats at the USATF Indoor Championships, setting an American record in the process. She clocked 7.68 to win the final, the second-fastest time ever by an American.
  • Daniel Haugh set a world best and American record in the men's 35-pound weight throw at the USATF Indoor Championships with a 26.35/86-5 that also made him the only man ever to surpass 26 meters. The ratified American record of 25.86 was set in 1995 by Lance Deal.
  • Erin Reese moved to No. 2 on the all-time world performer list in the women's 20-pound weight throw with her 25.73/84-5 effort at the USATF Indoor Championships.
  • Ryan Crouser had the second best indoor shot out performance ever at the USATF Indoor Championships with a 22.80/74-9.75 that missed his own world indoor record by just two centimeters.

*All records subject to verification by the USATF Records Committee.
