INDIANAPOLIS — Recording the best throw ever by an American collegian in the men's javelin, Jordan Davis (Wallingford, CT/USATF Connecticut) earned recognition as the 12th USATF Athlete of the Week award winner for 2024. Davis, a senior at Southern Connecticut State University, went into the Texas Relays with a lifetime best of 74.37/244-0, and left Austin with a huge PB of 83.77/274-10, the longest throw ever by an American collegian with the "new" model javelin that was introduced in the mid-1980s. The 2022 NCAA Division II national champion, Davis hit 80.36/263-8 on his first attempt to add almost 20 feet to his PB, and then uncorked his monster throw in round six. Beating 2023 Pan American Games gold medalist and Tokyo Olympian Curtis Thompson, Davis moved to No. 10 on the all-time U.S. performer list, and he bettered the previous American collegiate record of 83.30/273-3 that was set in 1990 by Tom Pukstys of Florida.
