LOUISVILLE — Day two at the USATF National Youth Indoor Championships was nothing shy of dramatic. Dozens of national champions were crowned as sprint finals and field event glory filled the day. The first batch of day two finals on the track came with a slew of 200s. Joseph Rogers II (Unattached) nearly dipped under 30 seconds to win the Boys 8 & Under division. The eight-year-old sped to a 30.21 finish, more than two seconds faster than the competition. Keyzelle Thomas Jr. (Team Blaze) kept up the momentum in the Boys 9-10 division, winning his race by a second with a 26.31 clocking. The men’s 17-18 finish may have been the most exciting event of the morning, coming down to a photo finish between Jaelyn Reeves-Lile (Unattached) and Allan McKeraghan (Spokane Speed Academy). Reeves-Lile got the nod as the pair both finished in 21.89. Maison Crayton (Unattached) made himself known in the Boys 8 & Under shot put. Every single one of his throws was far enough to beat the field comfortably, but his best mark came in round four as he launched the shot 8.52m/27-11.5. Four of Crayton’s six throws sailed past the 8m mark. In the men’s 18-19 shot put, Justin Moore (Unattached) had a standout performance, launching the shot put 17.79m/58-04.50 on his fourth attempt - a meter further than his closest competitor. Camryn Massey (GJTC) became a USATF Champion in the women’s 17-18 shot put as she landed a 12.46m/40-10.5 throw on her final attempt, making a statement to improve her already-winning mark of 11.31m/37-01.25. Three pole vaulters in the Girls 15-16 division went head to head, each clearing 3.45m/11-03.75. Annamarie Montle (Unattached) cleared the bar on her first attempt, giving her the win. Lacy Willoughby (Kaizen Pole Vault) made the clearance on her second attempt after clearing 3.30m/10-10 in a single try to edge out Raiden Kipfmiller (Unattached) based on attempts. Alexis Willis (GJTC) sailed well past five meters to win the women’s 17-18 long jump comfortably. On her fourth attempt, Willis leapt 5.41m/17-09 to win by an entire foot over Briana Ritchie’s (Unattached) 5.03m/16-06. Six for six jumps over six meters took an astounding win in the boys 15-16 long jump. Michael Danna (SC Flight) jumped 6.48m/21-03.25 in the third round to win by a half a meter and take a national title. Xoie Youngblood (San Antonio Swift Track Club) ran away from the pack to win the 9-10 girls 1500m run. The 10-year-old blew through the finish line in 5:15.96 ahead of teammate Jada Boydstun (San Antonio Track Club) 5:28.35 in second. Eliana Burton (Awesome Athletics) and Jazara Williams (Prospect Park Youth Running) fought to the finish, crossing the line in 5:39.66 and 5:40.67 for a close race to third. In the boys 9-10 55m dash, Keyzelle Thomas Jr. (Team Blaze) lived up to his team’s name, blazing to a 7.52 clocking to win the USATF title comfortably. Nasir Stanley (Unattached) was the only sub-eight runner, dipping down to 7.65 to take second in the division. Kameron Edmonson (Unattached) ran 7.22 to take a decisive victory over Braylen Batts-Hobbs (Built4This Elite) and Braylen Stepp (Body Rock Health and Fitness), who finished in 7.63 and 7.64, respectively. Sydney Ward kept the momentum going in the girls 15-16 division, racing to a 7.22 clocking ahead of Kennedi Alford (Body Rock Health and Fitness) in 7.55. Following in his father’s fast footsteps was King Combest (Kentucky Elite), son of U20 4x100m silver-medal winning Casey Combest. A 6.44 clocking was good for a national title over Quinton Brown’s (Unattached) 6.50. Finals excitement on the track concluded with the 1500m Race Walk. Kayleia Lindsey (Elgin Sharks Track) led her race from the start, striding through the finish line with a time of 8:40.35 for the win in the girls 11-12 division. The girls 9-10 division was a race from the start between Samara Godson-Butler (Dayton Wolverine Track) and Aria Williams (Huron Athletics). The pair raced side-by-side, each attempting to pull away from the other through the first six laps before Godson-Butler made her move, ultimately winning by two seconds with her 11:10.71 over Williams’ 11:12.92. The girls 13-14 triple jump was no match for Zenobia Witt (Alpha and Omega Athletics), who bounded to 10.74m/35-03 on her fourth attempt, winning the event by almost five full feet. In the 13-14 division, Kyle Schmits (Notre Dame Track) leapt 9.14m/30-00 to win his division comfortably. Wrapping up the field events was an impressive performance by Connor Kalvar (Unattached) in the men’s 17-18 weight throw. Kalvar scared the 20m mark when he launched a third round throw out to 19.92m/65-04.25. His performance was one of two over 60 feet, and the only to surpass 65, besting the field by a meter and a half. A full list of results can be found here.
