INDIANAPOLIS — Winning the men's title at the San Diego Holiday Half Marathon, Dillon Maggard (North Logan, Utah/USATF Pacific Northwest) earned recognition as the 46th USATF Athlete of the Week award winner for 2023. Maggard, the ninth-place finisher in the 3000 at last year's World Indoor Championships and a member of Team USATF for this year's World Cross Country Championships, ran in the lead pack throughout the race on the course that started near Rancho Penasquitos, north of San Diego, and followed state highway 56 to the finish at Torrey Pines State Beach. With him at the front as they passed the six-mile mark at just over 30:00 were World Championships gold medalist Josh Kerr of Britain, Henry Wynne and John Raneri. Going through 10 miles in 46:38, Maggard stayed in contention, and then he cruised to the front to run on and win by 22 seconds in 61:29. Kerr finished second in 61:51, with Wynne third in 62:06.
