LOUISVILLE — The USATF National Youth Indoor Championships kicked off today at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville, Kentucky. Strong field events highlighted the prelim-heavy day of competition. Makenna Spencer (Tailwind) dominated the Girls 8 & Under division of the 800m, cruising through the finish line in 3:02.67 over Emma Yotov (Prospect Park Youth Running), who finished second in 3:27.56. Logan Alsobrook (Blues City Runners) won the Boys 9-10 division handedly in 2:32.01, winning his heat by more than five seconds. Kyrie Foster (Unattached) made a statement in the Girls 9-10 shot put as they only thrower to eclipse the 8m mark. Foster launched four attempts past the 8m line, with her furthest heave coming in the fourth round at 8.37m/27-05.50. On the boys’ side in the 9-10 division, a similar result took place with Gabriel Samson (VO2Max Track Club). All but two of Samson’s throws were far enough to win the division, with a best effort of 8.15m/26-09.00 coming in the fourth round. Presley Jones (Unattached) had quite the day in the Girls 13-14 pole vault. The 14-year-old cleared 3.05m/10-00 on her first attempt after smooth clearances over 2.50m, 2.75m and 2.90m. The Girls 17-18 weight throw was no match for Hadley Lucas (Unattached), who brought the heat with a whopping 15.47m/50-09.25. Her mark was the only over 15m and the only to surpass 50 feet. Madison Fowler (Unattached) was the nearest competitor and the only other thrower over 13m with her 13.71m/44-11.75. Samantha Jones (Pirate Track Club) added to the success of the day with her 8.19m/26-10.5 throw, which bested the field by more than a meter.
