Wilson’s world-leading 400H earns her USATF Athlete of the Week honors

INDIANAPOLIS — Pulling off a rare double with a world-leading time in the 400m hurdles, Britton Wilson (Fayetteville, Arkansas) earned recognition as the 19th USATF Athlete of the Week award winner for 2022.

Wilson, a sophomore at Arkansas, won the women’s 400m in a U.S.-leading 50.05 and then doubled back to take the 400m hurdles in a world-leading 53.75 at the Southeastern Conference Championships in Oxford, Mississippi. Wilson capped off the meet with a 48.60 anchor leg on the Razorbacks’ 4x400m relay, the ninth-fastest split in American history. Her 400m hurdles time moved her to No. 6 on the all-time collegiate performer list, and her 400m effort puts her at No. 7 on that list.

Other top performances from last week:

  • Aliphine Tuliamuk won the women's USATF 25km Championships in 1:23:19.
  • Leonard Korir was the men's champion at the USATF 25km Championships, winning his second straight USATF Running Circuit event in 1:15:53.
  • Chase Ealey led a 1-2-3 finish for Team USATF with a victory in the women's shot put at the Doha Diamond League meet, throwing 19.51m/64-0.25, the best outdoor mark by an American this year.
  • Ryan Crouser won the men's shot put at the ATL Puerto Rico Classic with a world-leading 22.75m/74-7.75.
  • Gary Martin ran the fastest ever boys’ mile in a high school-only race, clocking 3:57.98 at the Philadelphia Catholic League Championships to beat the previous best of 3:58.3, set in 1965 by Jim Ryun.

Now in its 21st year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week when there are high-level competitions and features the athlete on USATF.org. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
