Peterman's Long Trail gold earns him USATF Athlete of the Week honors

INDIANAPOLIS — Taking gold in the Long Trail race and leading Team USATF to the title at the World Mountain & Trail Running Championships, Adam Peterman (Missoula, Montana/USATF Montana) earned recognition as the 38th USATF Athlete of the Week award winner for 2022.
 
Peterman, who ran collegiately at Colorado and was the Pac-12 bronze medalist in the 3,000m steeplechase in 2016, covered the 78km course in Chiang Mai, Thailand, in 7:15:53 to win by almost 13 minutes and help the U.S. to a big margin of victory over runners-up France and third-place Spain. In June Peterman won the Western States 100-miler, the oldest 100-mile race in the world, the latest in a streak of ultrarunning victories for the 27-year-old Montanan.
 
Other top performances from last week:

• Allie McLaughlin won the women's Uphill Mountain race at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Thailand in 55:15 to lead the U.S. to the team trophy. She also placed third in the Up and Downhill Mountain race.
• Weini Kelati won the women's USATF 5km Championships on the streets of New York City by 14 seconds in 15:16, defending the title she won last year and setting an event record.
• Abdihamid Nur outkicked Hillary Bor to win the men's USATF 5km Championships in New York, clocking an event record of 13:24 as he picked up his first national title.
• Ryan Duffy, 13, won his age group at the USATF 5km Championships by 19 seconds in 15:56 and then won his state USATF 4km Cross Country boys 13-14 crown on Sunday.
• Aliphine Tuliamuk finished seventh in the women's NYC Marathon with a personal best of 2:26:18, 32 seconds faster than her previous PB.

USATF names a new honoree each week when there are high-level competitions and features the athlete on USATF.org. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
