INDIANAPOLIS — Bettering the American record in the men's 3,000m*, Grant Fisher (Portland, Oregon/USATF Oregon) earned recognition as the 26th USATF Athlete of the Week award winner for 2022, his third award of the year. Fisher, who was fourth in the 10,000m and sixth in the 5,000m at the recent World Athletics Championships in Eugene, clocked 7:28.48 in the 3,000m at the Monaco Diamond League meet to better the existing American record of 7:29.00 that was set by Bernard Lagat at Rieti, Italy, on Aug. 29, 2010. Earlier this year, Fisher earned AOW recognition after he bettered the American indoor record for 5,000m with a 12:53.73i at Boston on Feb. 12, and he won again after he bettered the American record in the 10,000m with a 26:33.84 on March 6 at San Juan Capistrano, California, that is still the fastest time in the world in 2022.
