SACRAMENTO, California — Nail-biting performances continued on day five of the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships at Hornet Stadium, with meet records, blistering finishes, and come-from-behind victories highlighting day five. In the first distance finals since Tuesday morning, LV SPEED took the titles in both the boys 15-16 and men’s 17-18 3000m, with teammates Logan Scott (LV SPEED/USATF Nevada) and Noah Espeleta (LV SPEED/USATF Nevada) each clocking impressive final laps to secure their victories. Scott ran a major personal record of 8:52.06 and Espeleta clocked a major 8:47.24 to win by just over four seconds. Brielle Hudson (New York Starz Track/USATF New York) put forth one of the greatest series Junior Olympic shot put has ever seen when she set the new girls 9-10 meet record with her herculean 10.63m/34-10 toss in the fourth round, surpassing the previous meet record of 10.53m/34-06. Hudson not only won the competition by over nine feet, but every one of her throws was far enough to win the competition. The men's 17-18 triple jump featured one of the most unexpected champions of the entire meet when Zavien Wolfe (Youth Track and Field of Memphis/USATF Tennessee) soared 14.43m/47-04 in a last-round effort to move from sixth to the top of the podium. Wolfe had only jumped 13.92m/45-08 going into his sixth attempt. Alton Davis (Athletic Performance Ranch/USATF Southwestern) jumped 14.05m/46-01 for silver and Osita Agbo (Colorado Springs Striders Track and Field Club/USATF Colorado) leapt 14.04m/46-00 for bronze.
