NEW YORK, New York — An exciting weekend of Youth track and field at Ichan Stadium in Randall's Island kicked off Tuesday with the 2022 USATF National Youth Combined Events Invitational. On a picture-perfect day in the Big Apple, athletes ages nine to 14 competed in the inaugural event. Highlighting the day was Lakeland Track Club’s Joseph Pangallo with a whopping 2,125 point tally to win the boy’s 11-12 division pentathlon. His score bested an impressive field of competition by nearly 600 points. Pangallo won every event of the day, racking up 677 of his total in the 80m hurdles with a time of 14.61. He narrowly missed breaking five minutes in the 1500m with a 5:00.46 finish. Brielle Hudson came out on top with a stellar total in the girls 9-10 division triathlon. With 1163 points, the New York Starz Track standout lived up to the club’s name. Following a 33.54 finish in the 200m, a 9.85m shot put throw shot her point total up to take the lead before she solidified the win with a 1.27m high jump clearance. Ming Travis of Envy Track Club was in a league of his own as the lone competitor in the boy’s 9-10 division triathlon. He ran the 400m in 1:15.92, tossed the shot put 4.03m, and cleared 1.07m in the high jump to total 292 points for the day. The boy’s 13-14 division was a close competition all day long, but Notre Dame Track’s Aaron Irish-Bramble came out on top to win the pentathlon with 2530 points, shining the brightest in the 100m hurdles with a 15.96 finish. Another standout performance also came in the shot put when he heaved the ball 11.32m. Simone Grisham-Dobbs of the Phoenix Bobcats won the girls 13-14 division pentathlon. Her 1.40m high jump highlighted the day, contributing 512 points to her 1997 tally. A full list of results from the day can be found here.
