Olympic champion and world record-holder Dalilah Muhammad highlights a star-studded field of U.S. and international athletes scheduled to compete at the USATF Sprint Summit in Prairie View, Texas on April 3, the first stop on the USATF Journey to Gold-Tokyo Outdoor Series. Watch live on USATF.TV+ on Saturday, April 3 at 12:30 p.m. ET with the start of the women's hammer throw. Following the women’s hammer throw the stream will restart again just before the start of the running events at 3:00 p.m. ET. Muhammad (Bayside, New York), who smashed the world record in the women’s 400m hurdles twice in 2019 and picked up a world title to go with her gold from Rio 2016, will lead a strong field in the flat 400m, where she sports a lifetime best of 50.60. Three-time World Championships 4x400m relay gold medalist Jessica Beard (Euclid, Ohio) has a PR of 50.08, and she will be joined in challenging Muhammad by Jamaica’s Chrisann Gordon-Powell, who picked up world gold in the long relay in 2015 and was a silver medalist in the 4x400m at Rio. Raevyn Rogers (Houston, Texas), the silver medalist in the 800m at the 2019 Worlds, will drop down in distance to try and better her PR of 52.06, and 2017 world 400m hurdles champion Kori Carter (Claremont, California) is also an intriguing entrant. Doubling up in the 200m, Muhammad will have her hands full with Gabby Thomas (Florence, Massachusetts), the fastest woman in the world this year with her 22.17 at the Texas Relays last weekend. Olympic and Worlds 4x100m relay gold medalist Morolake Akinosun (Aurora, Illinois) also sped to a 22.53 at Texas last week, while 2019 Pan Am Games bronze medalist Tynia Gaither of the Bahamas has a 22.54 PR. Thomas, Akinosun and Gaither will also contest the 100m, where they will meet 2019 World 200m silver medalist Brittany Brown (Upland, California). Another world champion dropping down to half his standard distance is Steven Gardiner of the Bahamas, who leads the men’s 200m entries. Gardiner took gold in the 400m at Doha in 2019 and has a best of 19.75 in the half-lap. 2018 USATF Outdoors champion Ameer Webb (Tustin, California) and Andrew Hudson (Cibolo, Texas), who clocked 20.04 for Texas Tech in 2018, are among Gardiner’s top foes. Former NCAA champion Cameron Burrell (Houston, Texas) has twice zipped to a 9.93 in the men’s 100m and faces a familiar face in University of Houston teammate Mario Burke of Barbados, who ran 9.98 in 2019. Five other entrants have sub-10 clockings to their credit, including Webb, Bryce Robinson (Chesapeake, Virginia), Charles Silmon (Waco, Texas) and Isiah Young (Junction City, KS). Reigning Pan American Games men’s 110m hurdles gold medalist Shane Brathwaite of Barbados and women’s 100m hurdler Tiffany Porter, a two-time British Olympian, have strong resumés in the sprint hurdles. Joining Porter in the 100m hurdles are Team USATF multi-eventer Kendell Williams (Marietta, Georgia) who rocketed to a 12.58 during the women’s heptathlon in Doha and Costa Rica’s Andrea Vargas placed fifth in the Worlds final with a 12.64 PR. One of the top middle-distance men in the world, Emmanuel Korir of Kenya and formerly of UTEP, leads the 400m entries with a 44.21 best. Korir also has run 1:42.05 in the 800m and won the NCAA indoor/outdoor double at that distance in 2017. World and Olympic 4x400m relay medalist Deon Lendore of Trinidad won the NCAA 400m gold in 2014 for Texas A&M and ran a best of 44.36 that year lines up against Korir in the 400m on Saturday. Rio bronze medalist Ashley Spencer (Indianapolis, Indiana) is the top entry in the women’s 400m hurdles, with 2019 Pan Am Games silver medalist Amere Lattin (Missouri City, Texas) and 2018 USATF champ Kenny Selmon (Mableton, Georgia) the top men’s entries. Field event action will be highlighted by 2018 USATF champion and 2019 Pan Am Games bronze medalist Reggie Jagers (Cleveland, Ohio) in the men’s discus and 2019 Pan Am Games silver medalist Brooke Andersen (Vista, California) in the women’s hammer. Andersen is the No. 3 all-time U.S. performer in her event with a best of 76.75m/251-9. A pair of former NCAA champions in Kelsey Card (Carlinville, Illinois) and Jamaica’s Shadae Lawrence top the women’s discus field, and 2019 Toyota USATF Indoors champ Andrew Irwin (Mt. Ida, Arkansas) leads the men’s pole vault. The top marks of those entered on Saturday in the horizontal jumps belong to Jarvis Gotch (Carencro, Louisiana) in the men’s long jump and Thea LaFond of Dominica in the women’s triple jump.
