Rogers’s XC title earns her USATF Athlete of the Week honors

INDIANAPOLIS -- Natosha Rogers (Denver, Colorado) won the women’s crown at the USATF Cross Country Championships to earn USATF Athlete of the Week.
 
Rogers, the 2012 NCAA champion and Olympic Trials silver medalist at 10,000m, ran in a three-woman lead pack through the first laps of the Mission Bay course in San Diego, before breaking away with Paige Stoner. Rogers surged with a lap to go and pulled away from Stoner to win by 22 seconds in 35:44.3. It was the second career USATF title for Rogers, who won the 2017 half marathon at Columbus.

Other notable performances from the past week:
  • Taylor Ewert — Ewert smashed her own American U20 record in the 3,000m race walk with a 13:00.56 at the VA Showcase.
  • Antonio Arreola — Arreola, 60, became one of two men ever to run a sub-3 hour marathon for six consecutive decades, achieving the feat with a 2:58:18 at the Houston Marathon.
  • Athing Mu — Mu set a high school record in the 500m at the VA Showcase with a 1:10.22, and also won the 300m in 37.36, making her the 3rd-fastest high school performer ever.
  • Jacory Patterson — Patterson set a collegiate record in the 300m with a 32.28 on his home track at the Virginia Tech Invitational.
  • Lorilynn Bloomer — Bloomer won her first overall masters national title with a 24:14 for 6K at the USATF Cross Country Championships, winning by 40 meters.
  • Anthony Rotich — Rotich won the senior men’s 10K in convincing fashion at the USATF Cross Country Championships, clocking 30:36 for a 22-second margin of victory.
  • Tamari Davis — Davis, 16,  ran the fastest-ever women’s 60m by a U18 athlete, equaling the high school record of 7.19 at the Gamecock Opener in South Carolina. 
Now in its 19th year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on USATF.org. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
