The
20 September general meeting of PVA was called to order at 7:50 p.m. at White
Oak Library by President George Harris. After roll call of officers, a
correction to the May and June minutes was requested to include names of all
attendees. May and June minutes were approved as corrected.
Treasurer
Barbara Smith presented a written Treasurer's report. When members
questioned the removal of formerly noted committee allocations, Tim Baker moved
“The funds of PVA of USATF will be maintained in a unified account and
expenditures by committees will be made in accordance with the decisions of the
budgeting process.” This was seconded and after heated discussion, Al Morris
moved to table, seconded and defeated. The motion then passed. Treasurer's
report was accepted.
Officials
Chair Bill Thompson presented a proposal for Operating Regulation 4 concerning
the Officials Committee procedures, which was discussed and will be brought up
at the next meeting. Bylaws also fail to specify exact procedures for
electing the Officials Chair. The election will be at 8 p.m. on 27 Sept.
at Hyattsville Elementary School with all certified officials who are USATF
members eligible to vote.
Administrator
Susan Kalish presented a written report. The membership database is now working
and 2002 memberships will be processed on-line. National will send permanent
cards in about one month. USATF stickers for 2002 cost $7.50 (a $2 increase),
however the executive board voted not to increase PVA dues for 2002. (Still
$12 youth and $15 adult). Members may also go on-line and register with
credit card (Visa) directly after 1 Nov. Beginning in January, the minimum PVA
fee for LDR sanction will be $15 plus a late fee of $15 for requests received
within two weeks of the race date. In 2001 so far 69 sanctions have been
issued. Renewal notices for 2002 will be sent to the 53 registered clubs.
Bob Platt moved to rescind the raise in LDR sanction fee, seconded and defeated. Nancy
Betress did not receive adequate input from chairmen for the proposed Metro
Sports article, so it was canceled.
J Arthur Miles
was nominated for the Association Committee Horace Crow award to be presented at
Convention. Al Morris will submit the form with qualifications.
USATF
Convention delegates for the 27 Nov.-1 Dec. meeting in Mobile AL. were nominated
as well as their committee responsibility and qualification of each: Tim
Baker, George Harris, Barbara Smith, Sharon Good, Al Morris, Bill Thompson,
Charles Mayes, Henry McCallum, Jan Price, Frances Brown, Ralph Durant, elite
athlete Darrell General, and another prospective elite athlete. Alternates will
include Elmer Powell, Bob Platt, Norm Brand, and Gwen Nelson.
Youth Chair
Phil Barrett has resigned and Henry McCallum is acting. A new election
will be held 8 November at Long Branch Comm. Ctr). At Convention the PVA
Youth Committee will bid on outdoor Youth Nationals for the July 4 week in 2004. Barbara
Smith will head the bid presentation. Tim Baker moved the association
approve the youth bid, seconded and passed. If the bid is successful about
3000 youth are expected.
PVGames
Championship report will be next meeting (see on-line at www.pvtc.org). USATF
web posting for coming meets needs to be done early. Alan Roth would like
an assistant web master. Some suggested Bylaw revisions may be presented
to Norm Brand the Law and Legislation chair. The Good grievance panel has
met and the committee report is being prepared and suggested remedies will be
voted on.
Dates of
upcoming indoor meets sponsored by PVA were announced:
29 December at Hagerstown for Youth, open, masters. Register with Jan
Price or 1 p.m. registration with late fee.
27 January and 10 February at Sportsplex for Collegiate (and open who meet
collegiate level ability) and masters. Register with Tim Baker.
2 February at Sportsplex for Youth
3 March at Sportsplex. PVA indoor championship for youth, open, masters.
Next general
meeting will be 15 November at White Oak Library. General meetings for
2002 are expected to be 7 March, 16 May, 19 September, 7 November. (The
executive board may meet 18 October)
