The 22 May
annual PVA meeting was called to order at 7:55 p.m. at Montgomery Blair HS by
President George Harris. Tim Baker
moved to approve the November and March general meeting minutes. It was requested that treasurer’s reports be
part of the minutes. After a quorum was
established, minutes were approved.
Lloyd McMillan moved to approve the meeting agenda; seconded. Bob Platt moved to amend to conduct
elections first; seconded and passed, and motion as amended passed.
Herb Nichols, membership chairman took over the
elections. All nominations were from
the floor with nominees required to agree to serve. Voting cards were distributed to all USATF registered attendees
for each office in turn.
Nominees for President Mike Haynie and George
Harris were given two minutes to speak; timekeeper appointed.
Art Tunstall moved the vote be counted before proceeding
to next office, seconded and passed.
George Harris was elected to a two-year term. Nominees for Vice Presidents were Charles Mayes, Ralph Durant,
Frances Brown, Jan Price and William Thompson.
Highest number of votes received to become first vice president; all
could vote for up to four. Virginia
Atwell moved to close nominations and proceed with the election without waiting
for the tally, seconded and passed.
Candidates for secretary were Al Morris and Sharon Good. Sharon Good was elected Secretary. Candidate for Treasurer Barbara Smith was
elected by acclamation. Charles Mayes
moved to continue with other business while the vice presidential vote was
counted, seconded and passed.
Secretary Sharon Good read the list of clubs to be
approved for membership. Previously
provisional were Columbia Express TC, Ebenezer AME Royal Runners TC, Kettering
TC, Loudon T&F Club and Pikesville Cheetahs.
Other new and renewing clubs were Aberdeen Lazers,
Bowie Tracksters, Ferrari Striders of NOVA, Ft Belvoir TC, Firebirds TC, Heet
Academic TC Inc., MNCPPC PG Sports & Learning, Mountain Express TC, Nexus,
Owings Mills TC, RCI/ Run Coleman Inc., Rockville Striders Youth TC, SMAC Elite
T&F Club, Sports on the Hill, TCB Track Club, Thunderbolts, and Travelers
TC. Frances Brown moved to accept all,
seconded and passed.
Vice president results were announced: Jan Price is
First Vice President, with Ralph Durant, William Thompson, and Frances Brown
the other Vice Presidents.
Barbara Smith presented a written treasurers report
which was accepted after discussion.
Lloyd McMillan moved that the treasurers report be asttached to the
written minutes, seconded and passed.
They will be available upon request to PVA members from the
administrator but not on the web site.
Committee chair elections proceeded.
Nominees for T&F were: Men – Tim Baker and Elmer Powell.
Women – Tyrome Smith
Masters – Melvin Fields and
Sharon Good
Elected were Tim Baker, Tyrome Smith, and Melvin
Fields.
Youth Chair nominee Henry McCallum was elected.
Nominees for LDR were: Men – Darryl General
Women
– Nancy Betress and Al Morris
Masters - Jim Vandak and Bob Platt
Elected were Darryl General, Nancy Betress, and Jim
Vandak..
Race Walk chair nominees were Gwen Nelson and Jan
Price. Gwen Nelson was elected.
Officials certification chair election was proposed. Barbara Smith moved to proceed with the
election, seconded. After discussion since
election was held last October, and
officials not fully notified, the motion was defeated.
Meeting adjourned at 10:12. Next general meeting September 19 potentially at Montgomery
Blair.
Reports not presented verbally during the meeting due
to lack of time include:
Administrator Stacy Cohen reported 2144 individual
members for 2002(1602 youth), 51 clubs and organizations and 41 sanctions.
In the USQ\ATF Nike Shoe Raffle for youth clubs,
Marlboro B&G and Hummingbird T&F clubs each received 12 pairs of shoes
as part of 60 clubs selected nationwide from 227 entries.
Women’s LDR selected Patty Fulton through the Pikes
Peek race as the PVA emerging elite woman athlete to attend the Friehofers
women’s run.
At the NIRW in Manassas VA the PVA 20K Race Walk
champions were: 1 Steve Pecinovsky (7th overall), 2 David Douherty
(9th), 3 Victor Litwinski (15th) and 1 Virginia Inglese
(11th famale). The 20K
winners were Kevin Eastler and Teresa Vaill.
